What is Rewolt?

Rewolt is a third-person dark fantasy action RPG, set on the fictional continent of Tellus, in a remote canyon area called the No Man’s Land. You play a nameless protagonist who miraculously comes back to life, with the help of a hermit. Weak, confused, and marked by a strange scar on your neck, you start searching for answers. Fight your way through the inhospitable canyon area, join one of two factions, explore the dense open world, and experience a branching main story through five chapters.

Core Features

Five story chapters: Rewolt features five story chapters that directly affect the gameplay. After you finish a chapter, areas get refreshed with new enemies, NPCs, quests, and more. The main story branches after a certain point, leading towards unique faction quests and a different ending, depending on your faction choice.

Two major factions: Join one of two factions and experience a unique main story path. Both factions have unique story quests and different outcomes, which lead to a completely different ending of the game. Valador has a very strict and brutal hierarchy, while Delen is somewhat more relaxed with its rules. Nevertheless, in order to earn respect from your chosen faction and climb the ranks, you will have to make important decisions through the main story and gameplay.

Old-school character progression: The progression system is heavily inspired by old-school action RPGs, such as Gothic 1 & 2. The “hero” is weak, and he can barely hold a weapon properly in the beginning. Progress through three different melee skill levels and unlock the full potential of the combo system.

Each subsequent skill level provides you with new animations, more precise attacks, damage, and overall effectiveness of your combos. You still need good timing for triggering the combo attack at the end of animations, regardless of your skill level. Mastering the combo system gives you a chance to take on the strongest enemies in the No Man’s Land.

Even though we strive to emulate the old-school feeling of progression, we also want to create a very responsive and impactful combat system. This means that even the beginner skill level should feel snappy and deliberate in combat from the very beginning of the game, without hampering the sense of getting stronger.

One of the best methods to ensure that we are on the right track with combat mechanics is to let everyone try out our free combat demo, coming out soon on Steam.

No level scaling systems: There are no level-scaling enemies in Rewolt, all NPCs have fixed levels. Each enemy you face has a fixed level depending on the area you explore, and you can even stumble upon a very dangerous monster in the starting zones if you’re curious enough.

We want to encourage exploration, but with no modern hand-holding features like “yellow paint” or even quest markers. Instead, we rely on the player’s intuition, NPCs, and the world design itself for subtle guidance. Rewolt is being built on this premise from its earliest concept stages.

Faction-based skills: Joining a faction will also grant you access to exclusive gameplay skills. Both factions offer three distinct playstyles, totaling six options for players to specialize in.

  • Become a supernatural soldier of Vallador by crawling through their brutal hierarchy and harsh training. Overwhelm enemies with heavy, two-handed weapons or adopt a more tactical, defensive approach with a sword-and-board playstyle. Obtain forbidden knowledge of woltium and become a Warlock. Learn to cast chaos bolts and transfusion blood magic.
  • Become one with the elements by joining the Shamans of Delen, and worship the gods of Earth, Air, and Water. Worshipping the God of Earth allows for a hybrid melee/magic playstyle. Worshipping the God of Air enhances ranged combat with bows, offering two unique paths. Worshipping the God of Water grants access to an offensive mage playstyle, featuring water and ice spells.

Additionally, we plan to implement hidden options for more abilities and spells, outside of the two major factions/camps.

Explore a dense open world: We are building a smaller open world with a greater focus on the level design itself, rather than the sheer size of the map. There are no procedural generation systems in use, every zone is done by hand. Our team strongly believes this is the best approach for crafting a memorable and immersive world map.

Combat: Rewolt features a 3rd-person action combat system with faction-based character progression. All playstyles in Rewolt, be it melee, magic, or ranged, use the universal combo system, which rewards good timing and positioning in battles. Besides the integral combo system, Rewolt’s combat relies on cooldowns and does not utilize stamina or mana systems! With “zero to hero” character progression and no level scaling systems, Rewolt aims to reignite the passion for classic RPGs once again.

Dynamic world elements: To bring this world to life, people from both factions will have NPC schedules with a unique set of activities during the day-night cycle. You will have a great deal of freedom when interacting with people from both factions. Make friends, enemies, or simply ignore what doesn’t concern you. But every action or inaction will eventually have consequences on the world around you, especially after the chapter changes.
