Mythic Wave Unveils Rewolt, a Dark Fantasy RPG Inspired by Old-School Classics

The world of Rewolt will not wait for you to become a hero. You will have to earn it.

October 4, 2026  – Independent game development studio Mythic Wave today announced Rewolt, a medieval dark fantasy RPG inspired by the uncompromising design philosophy of classic role-playing games from the early 2000s.

Currently in development, Rewolt is a handcrafted single-player RPG built around meaningful exploration, challenging combat, character progression, faction-driven storytelling, and player choices that shape the course of the story.

Players can get their first look at the world of Rewolt in the official announcement trailer, which takes viewers through the game’s dark fantasy environments, accompanied by atmospheric narration.

Alongside the game’s official reveal, Mythic Wave is also announcing plans for a Kickstarter campaign, which will launch at a later date. The campaign will give players an opportunity to support the development of Rewolt and follow the project as it continues to grow.

Rewolt is also now available to wishlist on Steam, while a free combat demo is coming soon, offering players their first hands-on experience with one of the game’s core systems.

“Starting Mythic Wave and turning Rewolt into a real game has been a huge step for us, especially as a small independent team. For more than 15 years, we’ve talked about creating the kind of game we would genuinely want to play ourselves, and seeing that idea finally become something real means a lot to us,” said Stevan Rosić, Founder and CEO of Mythic Wave.

Inspired by hardcore old-school RPGs such as Gothic and Gothic II, Rewolt aims to recreate the sense of discovery, danger, freedom, and meaningful progression that defined many genre classics, while introducing an original dark fantasy world and a modern third-person combat system.

The game is being developed by a small but experienced team of around ten developers at Mythic Wave.

“Rewolt started from our love for the RPGs we grew up with – games that didn’t constantly tell you where to go or what to do next, and where becoming stronger actually changed the way you experienced the world. We want to bring that feeling back while creating something with its own identity. This is the first time we’re showing Rewolt to the wider public, and we’re looking forward to building the game together with the community from this point forward,” said Marko Glišović, content creator behind Clik4Gameplay, Founder of Mythic Wave and Creative Director of Rewolt.

Choose Your Side

Rewolt places players in the role of a nameless protagonist caught between two opposing factions fighting for the future of No Man’s Land.

On one side stands Vallador, a faction of warmongering zealots engaged in an endless pursuit of power. Their ambitions ultimately lead them toward an ancient secret capable of changing the world as its inhabitants know it.

On the other is Delen, representing the native population determined to cleanse their homeland of corruption and drive the invaders away once and for all.

Players will be able to choose which side to support, with their decisions influencing both their personal journey and the wider conflict.

The story is planned across five chapters, featuring two major factions, branching narrative decisions, and two distinct endings.

At the heart of this structure is Rewolt’s emphasis on player agency. Decisions are intended to have meaningful consequences rather than simply changing individual lines of dialogue, giving players reasons to experience the story from different perspectives.

From Zero to Hero

Rewolt is built around a classic “zero to hero” progression philosophy.

The protagonist does not begin the game as an established warrior or chosen savior. Instead, players start their journey relatively powerless and must gradually earn their place in the world through exploration, combat, equipment, alliances, and the choices they make.

Rewolt will also feature no level scaling, meaning enemies and areas will not automatically adjust to match the player’s strength.

Some parts of the world may therefore be extremely dangerous when first discovered, encouraging players to return later once they have gained better equipment, new abilities, and a greater understanding of the game’s systems.

The goal is to make progression tangible: opponents that once seemed almost impossible to defeat can eventually become a clear reminder of how far the player has come.

Third-Person Action Combat

Combat represents one of the core pillars of Rewolt.

The game features a third-person action combat system supporting melee, magic, and ranged playstyles, all connected through a universal combo system.

Rather than relying on conventional stamina and mana bars, Rewolt’s combat is primarily built around cooldowns, timing, positioning, and the way players combine different attacks and abilities.

Character progression will also be connected to the faction system, allowing decisions made throughout the story to influence how the protagonist develops.

Players will soon be able to experience these mechanics themselves through a free combat demo on Steam. The demo will provide an early look at Rewolt’s combat while development of the complete game continues.

Inspired by the RPGs That Trusted the Player

Rewolt is being developed first and foremost as a single-player role-playing game.

Mythic Wave is focusing on exploration, meaningful progression, dangerous encounters, faction-based storytelling, and a world that does not constantly guide the player toward the next objective.

The studio is not attempting to recreate any single classic RPG. Instead, Rewolt takes inspiration from the design philosophy behind the games that shaped the team’s passion for the genre — games where curiosity could lead to unexpected discoveries, entering the wrong area could have serious consequences, and becoming stronger fundamentally changed the way players interacted with the world.

By combining these old-school principles with an original dark fantasy setting and modern third-person combat, Mythic Wave aims to build an RPG for players who still value freedom, challenge, and the satisfaction of earning their progression.

About Mythic Wave

Mythic Wave was born from a shared love of video games and the ambition to create the kind of experience its founders had always wanted to play. The studio was founded by Marko Glišović and Stevan Rosić, turning years of conversations about games, design, storytelling, and what makes an RPG truly memorable into a project of their own.

For years, Marko has been known to gaming audiences through Clik4Gameplay, where he has reviewed, analyzed, and often critically examined games from across the industry. After spending years discussing what works, what does not, and what players deserve from the games they invest their time in, he decided to take the next step: build one himself.

That decision led to the creation of Mythic Wave and its first game, Rewolt.

For the team, Rewolt is more than a debut title. It is the result of years spent playing, studying, discussing, and creating content around video games, now transformed into an opportunity to put those ideas into practice. Mythic Wave was built on friendship, passion, and a belief that a small team with a clear vision can create a world players will want to get lost in.
